I’ve decided that to change up the blog a bit, I will be adding some fun Real Estate and Design posts. There will be a random assortment of trends, sales, and just little ideas.
Photos courtesy of Make It RightMichael Graves isn’t the only starchitect doing good these days: Frank Gehry has just completed his first home for Make It Right, the organization founded by Brad Pitt to help Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts.
Located in New Orleans’ hardest-hit Lower 9th Ward, the new Make It Right home is Louisiana’s only Gehry project, and it’s laid out as a front-to-back duplex (one end is painted lilac, the other is painted light pink). Cut-and-dry stats: four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a 510-square-foot roof terrace, six canopied porches, and zero “iconoclastic, swoopy structures that look like bashed-in sardine cans.” Green features (a hallmark of all Make It Right homes) include ECO by Cosentino countertops, energy-efficient water heaters, and sustainable kitchen cabinets, floors, and carpeting. I wanted to make a house that I would like to live in and one that responded to the history, vernacular and climate of New Orleans,” said the architect in a press release. “I love the colors that the homeowner chose. I could not have done it better.” One thing’s for sure: this is one heck of a nice respite from that Eisenhower Memorial catastrophe.
